FAQs

FAQs

  • How much does it cost?

We understand that you need to know the costs involved in hiring a waste or house clearance service.  We also believe in the importance of providing you with an accurate quote.

The value of the goods removed, or cost to recycle them, along with the volume of goods to be cleared, the mileage and the distance from the property to the van to load all make a difference.

A single bulky item collection within Cheltenham starts from as little as a £60 call out fee.

Full house clearances can vary widely and we recommend getting in touch for an accurate quote. Remember that a clearance that takes 1 full day on site, likely takes the same amount of time again in sorting and appropriately disposing of the contents of the house.

Man with a van and delivery services are charged by mileage and labour.

  • Can you do a clearance in my village?

Visit our where we work page for a map and detailed description of areas covered.  We may travel further afield, if you’re interested feel free to give us a shout, if we can’t help ourselves we may be able to recommend someone local to you.

Job Done is based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, and operates in the surrounding area, as far north as Birmingham, and as far south as Bristol & Bath.  We travel as far as Leominster to the west, and Oxford to the east.

We are also available for delivery & removals nationwide, provided pick up or drop off is within our working area.

  • What happens to the stuff?

This is probably the most common question we are asked.

Your waste/unwanted belongings are processed in line with the waste management hierarchy.  It’s all about sorting.

First, anything that is suitable for re-use is separated and either sold or donated to go on and be used again.

Then, anything suitable for repair or repurposing is separated.  This stage also includes the dismantling and stripping of furniture that is no longer useful, so the solid wood, hinges, handles etc can be reused.

Anything that cannot be re-used or repaired is then taken to a registered waste transfer station, where it is sorted by  their purpose-built machinery to divert the maximum possible from landfill.

We continue to build a network of individuals and charitable organisations who have found new and exciting uses for things that would otherwise go to waste.

Please reach out if you think we may be able to help you.

  • How long does a house clearance take?

This depends on the size of the property, the volume of belongings to be cleared, the distance to the van to load, and if/how well it has been sorted prior to our arrival.

In general, an average clearance of a standard two bedroom house can be completed in a full day on site.  Those with a lot of small belongings, things to be dismantled/ripped out or a lot of large furniture will take more time.  Remember that our work is not done when we leave the property; we often have trips to multiple drop off points and sometimes many hours of sorting/repairing still to come.

We recommend a brief visit to the property to get an accurate quote for any house clearance, including how long it will take.  If that’s not possible, we can give an estimate from photos.

  • Do I need to be home?

No, you do not need to be home for us to complete a waste collection or house clearance.

We can collect kerbside, or collect a key from a neighbour, estate agent, solicitor or any other nominated person.

Equally, if you would like to be around, we are more than happy to work whilst you put your feet up and have a brew.

Clearances are quicker and therefore more cost efficient for yourself if you have already sorted through everything and we know exactly what we need to take. That said, if you haven’t quite got there yet, we can work alongside you to get the Job Done.

  • What happens to my personal belongings?

We sort through everything.  Yes, everything.

If we find something that seems to be significant or of sentimental value, we will contact you to see if you would like it back.  We have returned dissertations, birth certificates and photographs.  So don’t worry, you won’t lose anything important forever!  Equally, we won’t leave it with you if you don’t want it!

  • What if you find money or valuables?

If we find cash, or items clearly of significant value, we will contact you.  In general, we do not return coins, unboxed or broken jewellery, sunglasses or watches. Of course if you have asked us to, then we will!

For clearances where there is demonstrably a large quantity of high value goods, we will create a bespoke quote. We will charge for the clearance and return money (minus a commission) to the customer from the sale of the items.

  • How long do I have to wait?

We pride ourselves on offering a flexible service.  For a simple waste collection, or one or two bulky items, we can often collect the same or next day.  For house or office clearances, we can usually get to you in within a week.  Give Jim a call if your job is urgent and he will endeavour to meet your needs.

  • What can you take?

    We say we can take everything.  There are a couple of exceptions;

-Hazardous materials (this includes medical waste & sharps.)

    -Weapons

There are a lot of items that we are happy to take but will incur extra cost to the customer.  The most common include; paint, fridge freezers & mattresses.  We will make you aware of these items & their charges in your quotation.

  • Will you buy my stuff?

We are not in the business of buying and selling and do not directly buy any furniture, collectibles, building materials or anything else.

We do offer reductions on your quote for saleable furniture and occasionally smaller pieces.

For clearances where there is demonstrably a large quantity of high value goods, we will create a bespoke quote.  We will charge for the clearance and return money (minus a commission) to the customer from the sale of the items.
